No Pre-Crushing Needed

There is no need to crush at first when pelleting corn, wheat, and soybean. Our flat die grain pellet mill can process whole grains like corn, soybean, wheat, etc., directly into pellets. You don’t need to crush them into powder first.

The secret is in the high-pressure friction and extrusion between the rollers and the die. When whole grains enter the die holes, the rollers apply instantaneous high pressure combined with friction. This breaks the grain cell walls, releases starch and proteins, and transforms them into plastic material. The material is then extruded through the die openings to form dense, uniform pellets. This is how the grain pellet mill achieves direct pelleting without pre-grinding.

Working Principle of Corn Pellet Mill

Pelleting Process: During the grain pelleting process, the raw materials go into the pelleting chamber through the feeding hopper. Under the high-pressure friction and extrusion between the rollers and flat die, the grains are crushed, sheared, and extruded from the die holes to form pellets.

Compression Ratio and Main Shaft Speed:

  • The die compression ratio (CR) is crucial. For whole corn, a CR of 1.8–2.2 is required to achieve proper pelleting.
  • The main shaft rotates at 320–380 rpm, providing sufficient roller pressure while keeping the material residence time short to prevent nutrient degradation.

Friction and Shear Effects: The grains experience strong friction and shear inside the die holes. Sticky substances released during the process improve cohesion, producing pellets that are firm and resistant to breakage.

Power System Performance:

  • Electric drive: This type offers stable speed and continuous operation and high torque which is required for whole-grain processing.
  • Diesel drive: Diesel engine type delivers high torque at low speed, which is ideal for hard grains into pellets, or remote farms without electricity.
  • Conclusion: The grain pellet machine has low-speed and high-torque output, which is critical for direct whole-grain pelleting. Both electric and diesel motors system provide enough instantaneous roller pressure for proper pellet formation.

Sterilization: The friction heat temperature between roller and die can reach to 70-80°C, which can kill bacteria and improve feed safety for animals.

Core Components: The die and the press rollers are made of high-quality steel and are hot-quenched. This increases wear resistance and service life by 3–5 times.
