Animal Feed Formulation & Ingredients: Utilize Local Resource

Materials for Animal Feed

Abundant resources can be used in making animal feeds and aquatic feed, such as palm meal, rice bran, beans, soybean meal, corn, cassava, fish meal, and fish oil.

Animal Feed Ingredients Analysis

  • Cassava: Cassava as a local crop, featured with low price and high nutritional values, it is widely used in making animal feeds. The starch in cassava has a higher digestibility than corns.
  • Corn: Corn, as the main raw materials for feed, which is rich in crud protein. With better bonding strength, they have high foaming properties in water. Most of imported corns are used for making chicken feed.
  • Fish Meal: Fish meal is a high-protein feed. It contains crude protein of 60%, and the crude fat doesn’t exceed 12%. Adding fish meal can guarantee the faster growth of animals, especially for aquatic animals.
  • Oil Palm Kernel Meal: It is the by-product of extracting palm oil, featured with balanced of nutrient-rich, good palatability and high digestibility. It is not only can replace the 10~30% of corn, but also can be used for protein materials. Widely used in pig feeds and poultry feed.
  • Rice Bran: Rice bran contains protein, vitamins, minerals, etc. And the content of protein is no less than 12.5%. Added appropriate amount of rice bran is extremely helpful to dairy cattle and beef cattle. With the rapid development of marine fisheries rice bran becomes an important raw material for making fish feed pellets.
  • Fish Oil: Fish oil is a high energy material which features with protein conservation. It can improve the energy of feeds and reduce the feed costs. Unique smell of fish and high palatability makes them more temptation for fish.

Species-Specific Formulation Standards

1. Broiler Feed Data

  • Starter Phase (0-10 days): Protein 23-25%, Fat 6-7%, Fiber 2-3%.
  • Grower Phase (11-24 days): Protein 21-22%, Fat 5-6%, Fiber 3-4%.
  • Finisher Phase (25 days to market): Protein 18-20%, Fat 6-8%, Fiber 4-6%.

2. Layer Feed Data

  • Protein: Typically 16-18% for Active Layers.
  • Calcium: Critically Important: 3.5% – 4.5% for Layers.
  • Mixing Rule: The quality of eggshell was best when the shell was 2/3 and limestone was 1/3.
  • Consumption: An average laying hen will usually eat about 100-120 grams of feed each day.
